The 34th Haku Un Kai on August 31
2024-09-08
We had the 34th Haku Un Kai on August 31.
We will introduce the report of Ms. Takahashi, one of our dedicated comprehensive course members. We communicate a lot between members including Okada sensei. English is also available.

I am sure that many of you are involved in kendo as instructors. At the beginning of the lecture, Okada sensei introduced a famous quote by Isoroku Yamamoto, “Show me, tell me, let me hear it, let me do it, praise me, or people will not move...” and talked about the “master-disciple relationship”.
Please see the attached photo of the whiteboard at the lecture. On the left is the “master” and on the right is the “disciple. When you “show them how to do”, they must be able to “see (watch) it”, when you “tell them to do”, they must be able to “listen and judge”, when you “let them do”, they must be able to “repeat and continue”, and when you “praise them”, they must be able to show “results” worthy of praise.
If you continue to practice kendo, you will become both “master” and “disciple. I understood that training is a joint effort and continuity between master and disciple, and a relationship of trust is absolutely necessary there. It is precisely because there is a master-disciple relationship that forms the basis of one's own self that it is meaningful to participate in once-in-a-lifetime training sessions and one-day seminars held in various locations to gain “experience.
The day after this lecture, I had the opportunity to be a coachfor the lower grade elementary school team of my dojo as they participated in a training session. Although they are in the same association, I do not usually get involved with them. So I took the picture of the whiteboard and thought I would put this content in my mind and share with the kids what I noticed at the training session. I have not seen the children since the training session, so I will be watching them closely to see if there is any change in their relationship with me.

If you are a comprehensive course member and not registered yet for the "band" group, you should try.
We will help you through the registration if you need.
